Taking parental leave in Sweden

ICHL Ambassadors: Join us in exploring the idea of how to enjoy parental leave in Sweden as a newcomer. You will have the chance to meet three guest speakers who will enlighten us from their perspective on what it’s like to be on parental leave.

Moving to a country where both parents have the opportunity to stay at home with their small child may seem strange, coming from another culture where traditionally the mother takes on this role.

How would it look to an employer if a father wants to be at home for several months at a time, enjoying the early stages of their child’s life? As a father in Sweden what can I do with my child other than feeding or changing diapers? As an international mother how can I feel comfortable going back to work, leaving my spouse / partner with this new responsibility.

Join us in exploring the idea of how to enjoy parental leave in Sweden as a newcomer.

You will have the chance to meet three guest speakers who will enlighten us from their perspective on what it’s like to be on parental leave.

You will meet a Swedish father who sees parental leave as a right and opportunity to bond with their child. As well as an international father who not only took the opportunity to stay at home but can talk about what to do and the benefits of being a father at home during this period. And finally an international mother who wants to share the responsibilities in the family organisation so that both can equally bond with their child.

If you are soon becoming international parents, thinking about starting a family or maybe even in the middle of your parental leave, please feel welcome to join us.

We will start with a 15 minute mingle then dive right into our speakers presentations, followed by a panel discussion and open forum for questions.
