From Dance Enthusiast to Entrepreneur, From Job Seeker to Internship: My Unforeseen Journey in Sweden
Passionate about connecting with people, exploring new places, dancing, and fashion, I immersed myself in the vibrant cultures of India, Malaysia, and Singapore while advancing my career in retail, marketing, and sales.
Despite our busy lives, quality time with my son remained elusive. However, when my husband was presented with a job opportunity in Sweden, we embraced the chance for a fresh start. Taking a break from my career, I savored precious moments with my son, embarked on European adventures, and explored the rich history of each captivating destination.
Integration into Swedish society and overcoming career challenges
As my son started on his educational journey in Sweden, I made the decision prioritizing family time and my son's development, I chose to take a break from my career. Embracing the newness of our surroundings, I actively engaged with local communities through social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, while also enrolling with Arbetsförmedlingen. During this period, I initiated networking efforts within the Indian communities, participating in Facebook and WhatsApp groups, and sharing my passion for dance with friends. This led to opportunities to choreograph and perform on stage, generating interest in dance classes among others. Encouraged by this response, I immersed myself in developing a business plan, with networking connections introducing me to NyföretagarCentrum, facilitating the establishment of my dance projects. Additionally, I collaborated with Malmö Stad, organizing dance sessions for various age groups and participating annually in competitions like Danskarusellen.
While I dedicated my weekends to dance, I simultaneously pursued opportunities in supply chain and marketing. Despite my initial excitement, reintegrating into the workforce posed unexpected challenges. With experience in Retail and Supply Chain Management, I faced multiple setbacks and disappointments in my job search. However, my resilient spirit and positive mindset propelled me forward, leading me to secure an internship through Jobbsprånget. Additionally, I volunteered on various projects, where I developed valuable skills in social media marketing and supply chain management.
Networking: The Key to Unlocking Opportunities and Success
Networking played a crucial role in my journey, facilitating both personal and professional growth. By connecting with diverse communities and sharing my passion for dance, I not only expanded my social circle but also unlocked opportunities for collaboration and business development. Through networking, I gained valuable insights, support, and mentorship. Furthermore, networking exposed me to job opportunities, enabling me to transition smoothly into a professional career in Social Media Marketing. Overall, networking proved to be a powerful tool for building relationships, discovering opportunities.
Networking hubs, such as International Citizen Hub Lund, Redi School of Digital Integration Malmö and EOS Cares Lund, serve as excellent platforms for discovering opportunities.
Lastly, I believe in focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems, seeking support from friends and mentors, and staying adaptable in the face of change. Embracing setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth has been crucial in my journey.
