“But in the face of adversity, I reminded myself why I had come here in the first place. It was to learn, to grow, and to experience something entirely new. I have also made friends here who are like a second family to me now. We navigated this unfamiliar terrain together, sharing our experiences, and supporting each other through the ups and downs. Watching my favourite movies, cooking homeland food, and celebrating festivals with them made me feel closer to home!”
It was a cold winter morning in February 2021 in India as I was getting ready to share a presentation to my team on the importance of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution. My heart skipped a beat as I read an article mentioning that the world needs a reskilling revolution. It made me ponder on how the tech revolution will influence my career and life.
In that realization, I made an ambitious decision to extend my previous academic endeavours of Chartered Accountancy and MBA. Fast forward a year and I was seated in the Business Intelligence Master’s Programme at Dalarna University in Sweden. I embarked on this adventure with a clear goal to explore my ambitions of becoming a global manager. Sweden, with its reputation for fostering a culture of trust, innovation, inclusion, and sustainability, seemed like the perfect place to nurture my aspirations.
But let me tell you, those initial months were anything but smooth sailing. Adjusting to a new culture and geography, particularly the ever-dark Swedish winter, was a significant challenge. The sun would peek out for a fleeting moment, and then it was back to the usual grey skies and long nights. I won't lie; it was tough as I enjoyed three hundred days of clear sunshine in India. The academics were also quite challenging and the pace was relentless. There were times when I questioned my decision to move 6500 km up north for this pursuit. Doubts crept in, and homesickness occasionally got the best of me.

I have also made friends here who are like a second family to me now. We navigated this unfamiliar terrain together, sharing our experiences, and supporting each other through the ups and downs. As I look ahead to the future, I'm filled with a sense of excitement. I recently completed my Masters and moved to Lund this Summer. Currently, I'm actively exploring job opportunities in the fields of Business Development and Finance Analytics space. As I discover more about Swedish culture, the aspects of social equality, innovation and eco-consciousness, are becoming more evident to me. I'm eager to join companies which align with these values and I am determined to contribute with my knowledge and experience gained through my career.
I am also very thankful to organisations like the International Citizen Hub Lund which are integrating foreigners into Swedish society. Each time I meet people at the Hub, I am always inspired to keep contributing and sharing with the wonderful community stitched by them.
At last, I want you to remember that the path to your dreams may not always be well-lit. But every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goals. So, embrace the challenges, cherish the moments of growth, and keep your spirits high. Your journey, like mine, is a testament to your courage, resilience and positivity.
With happiness and sunshine,
