"And I saw a large number of men and women from different parts of the world, excellent professionals, very educated, but just like me, having difficulties finding a job in Sweden. It was very important for me because I suddenly realized: I need help and it’s not a shame to ask for help. It does not devalue me in any way, as well as those people whom I met there."

I moved from Russia to Sweden together with my husband who got the job in Malmö.

I am a graphic designer. In the past, I have never had a problem finding a job. I worked in decent design agencies and I have very good experience with big Russian brands, so I thought I could find something in Sweden pretty quickly. It seemed to me that I perfectly understand the labor market in my niche and the requirements are about the same.

Immediately after we arrived in Sweden and settled down, I began to send my portfolio to companies that I liked. It should be noted that I was quite selective. It was important for me to find a place where they share my values, my approach, and work in an aesthetic that I like. Therefore, I spent a lot of time finding the right vacancies and selectively responding to some.

But they didn't answer me.

Then I learned about the ICHL Kick-Start Program. It was psychologically very difficult for me to ask for help as if it devalues my experience and professionalism. But I stepped over this sport and came to the information meeting. And I saw a large number of men and women from different parts of the world, excellent professionals, very educated, but just like me, having difficulties finding a job in Sweden. It was very important for me because I suddenly realized: I need help and it’s not a shame to ask for help. It does not devalue me in any way, as well as those people whom I met there.

Then began a month of intensive study at the ICHL, where one of the biggest insights for me was that the working culture in Sweden is very different from what I'm used to. I corrected my applications and began to receive answers. And after a total of 6 months of searching and interviewing, I finally landed the Graphic Designer role at IKEA. At the moment it has been 8 months since I started and this is the happiest time.
