Broaden your knowledge and network through “folkbildning” in Sweden. At this event you will learn about various forms of lifelong learning opportunities: courses, study circles and cultural activities.
Several million Swedes participate yearly in “folkbildning”- activities. This popular movement is hard to translate, but it has a long history in Sweden and played a big role in shaping the democratic society and promoting societal change.
Today there are several reasons why people join “folkbildning”-activities: personal development, increasing the chances of finding a new job, making new friends, or learning something new. Despite being free from detailed national control, “folkbildning” is largely financed through funding grants from the state, county councils and municipalities.
If you are interested you can participate in various forms of lifelong learning opportunities: courses, study circles and cultural activities, offered by 10 study associations and 154 folk high schools (“folkhögskolor”) all over the country. As an individual you can either join these activities as a participant or organize them yourself.
Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan, Lundabygden, our host for this event, will give us a short presentation of their work as a study association and take us on a tour around their premises. They will also answer to questions like:
- How do I join a course or study circle?
- How do I organize a course or study circle myself?
- What kind of support do I get in organizing a course/study circle? How does it practically work?
