Moving abroad and starting over in a new country is one of the most challenging but exhilarating adventures ever. Life, as you know it will change – and we’re not just talking addresses and laundry detergent. Moving to a foreign country is a combination of excitement, stress, and careful planning at any time and along with this, there is also a pandemic.
Many things have come to a temporary standstill amid the coronavirus crisis. People across the world are now adapting to new ways of doing things. In my experience it is like moving to another planet.
I lived in 3 different countries so far and each time the moment when I arrive in my new country I focus on making new friends, enjoying the new culture, new food, everything is new to discover, and it is just amazing.

In my case I started with the Kick-Start Program. I am happy to get experience from the amazing team who helped me take my first steps here in getting new knowledge, a network and constant support. I learned how to prepare a job interview in Sweden. The opportunity to start my career here was very unexpected but probably was the best choice.
Language for integration
Sweden is widely rated as number two in the world at having English as a second language, therefore it might take you longer to learn Swedish. But it is important to learn the language, as fluency in Swedish is crucial for full integration. Signing up for "SFI" (Swedish for immigrants) could be a step in the right direction. Learning Swedish might be a challenge, but worth the effort. SFI courses are offered through each local municipality’s adult continuing education program ("Kommunal vuxenutbildning", or "Komvux") so you will need to contact your local municipality.
Growing with fresh perspectives
For me, art has always played some part in my life. I’ve always been connected to it in one way or another. Maybe because, whenever I fail to express myself through words, art helps me. When I’m in a studio, with my favorite song playing on the stereo with nothing but art on my mind, I feel happy and serene. In an ever-busy schedule, art is an escape from the constant chaos and pressure. In my pursuit of new creative endeavors, I was excited to find them in Sweden. Observation, inspiration, and aspiration are my foundation for success.

Enjoying "fika" and "lagom"
And about the weather. Sure, the winter here is colder than most places, and a little bit too long and dark, but it’s all about perspective. Winters here totally change the place, with amazing sunrises and sunsets, a fresh feel to the air. Plus there is a range of activities like ice skating and skiing. It’s also all about the clothes you wear, so if you are going to be here for a long stay, make sure you buy a good winter jacket.
Sweden really looks after its citizens with offering great healthcare, education and safeguards at the workplace, as well as everyday life.
And finally, you must have heard of the Swedish concept of fika. It is easily one of the most famous Swedish concepts to "have coffee” or “coffee with friends,” is typically coffee accompanied by a sweet treat, and is a moment to slow down, and appreciate the good things in life.
"Lagom": Doing, being, and having just enough. This principle is truly indicative of the Swedish lifestyle. Simple, balanced and above all else, contentment.
