“I'd always dreamed of traveling the world, but never imagined that my journey would take me from the sunny Philippines to the bustling city-state of Singapore, and ultimately, to the lush landscapes of Sweden."
Four years in Singapore was a wonderful experience. I made friends from diverse backgrounds, enjoyed experiencing a culture that was both familiar and foreign, and had a fulfilling career in IT. When my husband was offered an incredible opportunity in Sweden, we knew it was time for a new adventure.
Leaving Singapore was bittersweet. I was excited for the change, but also apprehensive about starting over. I wasn't used to the cold weather, and the cultural differences were more pronounced than I'd anticipated. Being away from family and friends was challenging, but I found comfort in the support of my husband and son.
Making new friends in Sweden was a challenge, but I was determined to integrate into the community. Learning Swedish was a steep learning curve, but I found it rewarding. I'm so grateful I found the International Citizen Hub in Lund. The organization was invaluable, providing me with resources and a supportive network of fellow expats.
Finding opportunities in a foreign land wasn't easy. The job market was competitive, and language could posed additional challenges. But with perseverance and a willingness to learn, I eventually landed a job in Sweden that aligned with my skills and aspirations after almost a year of living here.
Looking back, I realize that my journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions. It has tested my resilience, broadened my perspective, and taught me the importance of adaptability. While I may miss the warmth and familiarity of my homeland, I have found a new home here. It is a place where I have grown, learned, and discovered a part of myself I never knew existed. And as I continue to explore this new chapter in my life, I am filled with excitement for the adventures that lie ahead.
